This is achieved by using the corrugated resilient metallic disk diaphragm 44 (shown in both open and closed valve positions in Figures 2 and 3), which is sealed into the upper end of the chamber 6 by a ring 45 or other means effecting a steam tight joint with a normally-closed valve head 46 carried thereon by a piston rod 32 whose lower end abuts against the top of the diaphragm 44.23.semi-automaticwith steam tube The upper end of the piston rod 32 is slidably supported in a nut 25 which is threaded water-tight in the adjusting valve seat 34 that is adjustably screwed upwardly therein and abuts against the bottom surface of the diaphragm.

The adjusting valve seat is made smaller in diameter than the valve head 28 to permit a small but rm seating force of the diaphragm to be exerted against said seat 34 when the piston rod 22 is in its fully raised position (Figures 1 and 2), which enables the valve to open only upon manual application of the trigger I8 or by an increase in the steam pressure in the chamber 6, in either event the valve opens for the purpose of discharging a blast of steam under pressure into the work.23.semi-automaticwith steam tube However, if the operator wishes to steam her work without waiting for the aforementioned automatic pop-oi action of the valve 28, she simply snaps her nger off the trigger I8 which immediately and a little bit unexpectedly reacts against the compression of the spring l3 by means of a slight click or bounce of the diaphragm 29 against its seat 34 for thereby manually bouncing it open as is shown in Figures 2 and 3.
